This is citizen turnout until 3:00 p.m.; CEC clarifies the issue of assisted voting
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has released the results on citizen turnout in today’s mayoral elections in 18 municipalities of Kosovo, as well as updates on the electoral process, KosovaPress reports.
At a press conference, CEC Chair Kreshnik Radoniqi stated that no irregularities have been recorded that would affect the progress of the electoral process.
“In all cases where there have been uncertainties or various issues, the CEC has been addressing them as quickly as possible, providing solutions. Based on preliminary data from around 95 percent of polling stations, the number of citizens who voted by 3:00 p.m. is 273,666, or 20.78 percent. In the first round in these 18 municipalities, 25.33 percent, or 333,489 voters, had participated,” he said.
Radoniqi also clarified complaints regarding voting assistance for persons with disabilities during the voting process.
“In the voting process so far, there have been some complaints regarding assisted voting. For accurate information, it is necessary to clarify that assisted voting for persons with disabilities—those who cannot fill out or cast their ballots—is guaranteed by the Election Law and CEC regulations. This does not mean that this guaranteed right can be abused by individuals who are not disabled attempting to use this category. According to CEC regulations, to prevent misuse, the voter’s disability must be verified with the appropriate documentation,” Radoniqi said.
Today, citizens in Kosovo are deciding the fate of mayors in 18 municipalities where no winner was determined in the first round on October 12.
