Enormous price increases initially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and now as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, have caused huge financial losses to many businesses in Kosovo.

This was said today at a press conference organized by the Chamber of Doing Business in Kosovo (CDBK) on the topic of "Challenges of businesses in fulfilling public contracts". In addition to the price increase, the CDBK board member, Hasan Gigollaj, said that the chamber has received many complaints from member businesses about damages, and the large financial losses that are being caused to them in fulfilling contracts with public authorities. He said that the CDBK urges the government and relevant institutions to take concrete steps to provide a solution for re-negotiating prices and enforcing contracts. "During the last week, the Chamber of Doing Business in Kosovo has continuously received requests from member businesses regarding the damages and large financial losses that are being caused to the latter in fulfilling the contracts signed with public authorities. These contracts are facing difficulties in fulfillment, as a result of unpredictable circumstances with the inflation that is happening in the world. Regarding this issue, the Chamber of Doing Business in Kosovo has held a consultative meeting with member businesses, which show large losses that are being caused by the current situation", he said. Gigollaj further stressed that the implementation of contracts with contracted conditions would put businesses in difficult situation, such as bankruptcy, as well as job losses. According to him, the vast majority of businesses as a result of the pandemic have had losses, while the recent changes created by the war in Ukraine, is affecting that in addition to enormous prices, businesses are experiencing difficulties in the supply chain. "The Chamber of Doing Business in Kosovo through this conference calls on the Government of Kosovo and the competent bodies to take concrete steps to provide a solution such as the issuance of an administrative instruction, which would enable the renegotiation of prices and implementation of contracts according to international practices. The vast majority of businesses, as a result of the pandemic, have suffered losses, while the recent changes created by the war between Russia and Ukraine are affecting that in addition to enormous prices, businesses are facing difficulties in the supply chain. As a result, economic operators have signed contracts with public institutions at a time when there was price stability. So, the change in circumstances is causing businesses to suffer huge losses. The implementation of contracts with contracted conditions would put businesses in difficult situation, such as bankruptcy, as well as job losses", he said.
