A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the mayors of the municipalities of the Prishtina region for the development of an inter-municipal plan for integrated waste management and an agreement for inter-municipal cooperation for joint work in the waste management sector.

In this agreement for the integrated waste plan, are the municipalities of Pristina, Podujeva, Fushe Kosova, Drenas and Obilic.

Representatives of the European Union Office in Pristina estimated that the level of waste collection has increased and the number of illegal landfills has decreased, but that the efficient implementation of the legislation remains a challenge.

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Linda Çavdarbasha, has said that this ministry is committed to supporting the municipalities of Kosovo for waste management and classification. She said that the memorandum creates the possibility of the process of separation at the source and for waste recycling.
