The Food and Veterinary Agency has received a notification regarding suspicions of the presence of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) disease in a farm in the village of Landovicë, Prizren Municipality.

The Agency states that veterinary medicine inspection teams were immediately activated, who imposed a movement restriction on the suspected farm from which samples were taken for testing.

“This morning, the Food and Veterinary Laboratory confirmed the presence of the disease at the suspected farm. Samples tested from surrounding farms have returned negative. In accordance with its legal mandate and based on laboratory analysis results, the Agency has declared the village of Landovicë an infected zone, within a 3 km perimeter from the affected farm. This area has been placed under quarantine measures, prohibiting the movement of any animals, as well as the transport or circulation of animal products and by-products. Surrounding farms have been placed under suspicion for epidemiological investigation, source tracing, and possible contact with the infected farm. Biosecurity measures are being enforced on farms, along with disinfection of farms and surrounding areas according to veterinary protocols,” the announcement reads.

On July 3, 2025, the Food and Veterinary Agency issued Decision No. 01/537/2025 on general measures for the control, prevention, and combat of PPR (Peste des Petits Ruminants).

Additionally, on June 11, the Agency announced a ban on the import of sheep and goats from the entire territory of Albania, following confirmation of multiple cases of PPR disease in the country’s small ruminants.
