The Embassy of Italy in Kosovo has responded following yesterday’s search operation carried out by the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) in coordination with KFOR at Lake Ujman.

The Embassy expressed its support for NATO’s mission in Kosovo as well as the KFOR commander.

"The Embassy of Italy in Kosovo expresses its full support for KFOR Mission and for KFOR Commander, who operated within the limits of his mandate, in light of the unfortunate circumstance that necessitated the intervention of the team for humanitarian reasons."

"The Embassy therefore reiterates its full appreciation of the longstanding positive role played by the KFOR mission in Kosovo."

On July 29, the KSF managed to find the body of a person who had been reported to have jumped from the bridge into Lake Ujman on Sunday. Specialized KSF teams joined the operation only on the third day, after KFOR authorized the KSF to carry out this humanitarian operation.

The deployment of KSF troops in the northern Serb-majority areas can only take place with prior consent from KFOR, based on a commitment made in 2013 by the Government of Kosovo and NATO.

Ujman is located in Zubin Potok – one of the four northern municipalities of Kosovo with a Serb majority population. /KosovaPress
