The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) will remain in opposition, party leader Bedri Hamza said after meeting with Vetëvendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti.

He said the discussions with Kurti were correct, but wished him success in forming the new institutions, including the election of the president.

“Based on the conversations we have had and the discussions, which were, of course, correct, our position is that the PDK will be an opposition party for this mandate. We wish Mr. Kurti and everyone who is holding meetings and discussions success in providing the country with institutions, including all institutions. Apart from the PDK, there are also 98 other deputies in the Assembly of Kosovo, and mathematically it is possible to complete the formation of all institutions. We will cooperate with all political forces within the Assembly for the benefit and interest of the citizens of Kosovo, and on all issues where Kosovo’s interest is at stake, the PDK has demonstrated and promised that its vote will be a vote in favor, including financial agreements and other agreements that require a two-thirds majority,” he said.

Asked how the party will act regarding the election of the president, Hamza said that the main responsibility for forming institutions lies with the Vetëvendosje Movement, as the party with the largest number of seats in the Assembly.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti also invited LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) leader Ardian Gjini to meetings on Friday. Gjini rejected the invitation, while mentioning several of his demands, including American gas as a condition for providing the quorum for the election of the president.

Kosovo's Central Election Commission (CEC) certified the results of the June 7 elections on Wednesday. The Vetëvendosje Movement emerged as the first-ranked party with 47.13 percent of the vote, securing 53 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo came second with 19.44 percent and 22 deputies. The Democratic League of Kosovo won 16.69 percent and 18 seats, while the Alliance secured 6.74 percent and seven seats. Non-majority communities secured 20 seats in the Assembly.
