Suicide rates in Kosovo are decreasing, psychologists talk about the causes of this phenomenon

Suicide is one of the biggest social and health challenges that affects many countries in the world, including Kosovo. However, compared to 2023 with 2024, this phenomenon has decreased in Kosovo. During 2024 alone, according to the Kosovo Police, 141 cases were reported, of which 123 were suicide attempts and 18 were suicides.

While according to data from the Kosovo Police in 2023, 164 cases were reported, of which 123 were attempted murders and 41 were suicides.

According to psychologists, the individual who commits suicide is affected by a combination of many factors, starting from the psychological, social and biological aspects. And for this phenomenon, psychologists have also listed some of the causes such as the loss of an individual, unemployment, mental health, use of narcotic substances, etc.

Psychologist from the Association of Psychologists of Kosovo, Ilir Havolli, stated that an emergency line should be created for these individuals to receive psychological help, in certain cases even emergency interventions.
