Drivers of vehicles from today must be careful in implementing the new rules, since with the entry into force of the new law, high fines are foreseen for violators of these rules in traffic.

The tightening of fines with the new law is a consequence of the high number of accidents, self-accidents and accidents with multiple fatalities in our country.

The Kosovo Police has started implementing the new traffic law and punishing all those who violate the rules.

The lieutenant colonel in the Kosovo Police, Jeton Rexhepi, says that the change in the law has come as a result of the evaluations carried out so far regarding the implementation of the old law. He says that based on the analysis, there is a distraction of vehicle drivers while driving which is affecting the increase in the number of accidents.

With the current law for not wearing a safety belt, the fine is 150 euros for the driver and for the other participants in the vehicle, the fine for the use of the phone will be in three variants, for the first time it will be fined for 100 euros, the second time 200 euros and the third time 500 euros and it will be forbidden to drive the car for six months.

As for speed within the residence, 20 euros for speeding from 5 to 10 kilometers per hour (km/h) over the permitted speed, 40 euros for exceeding the speed from 10 to 20 km/h over the permitted speed, 60 euros for exceeding of speed from 20 - 30 km/h above the permitted speed, 200 euros and a three-month driving ban plus three negative points for speeding from 30 to 50 km/h over the speed limit and many other rules.

At least 104 dead and thousands injured is the balance of road accidents for 2023. According to the police, over 22,000 accidents were recorded during 2023. Compared to 2022, the number of accidents for 2023 has increased over 1,000.
