The heads of state institutions have today signed the request letter of Kosovo's application for membership in the European Union.

The president of the country, Vjosa Osmani, said that this is a historic day.

"We are taking a decisive step towards realizing our collective dream. For Kosovo, there has never been another alternative, but dreams come true only when action is taken", she said.

Osmani said that Kosovo deserves to be part of the EU family.

"The process is not uniform and may be long-term, but we are determined to succeed. We will do our work so that the European Union can do its part as easily as possible", added Osmani.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, said that the European Union is complete only when all European nations are part of this union.

"This is the first official step on the path of Kosovo's accession to the European Union, a path that was long and by no means easy. We deserve to become a candidate country and start the journey towards the opening of negotiations for membership in the European Union", said Konjufca.

He called on the parliament, the council and the commission and the countries to demonstrate their support for Kosovo by unanimously approving Kosovo's request.

The Prime Minister of the country, Albin Kurti, said that progress will depend on our commitment to deep and transformative reforms.

"The speed with which we will move will depend on us, therefore everyone's commitment is necessary and everyone's dedication is necessary. We overcome obstacles and challenges with democratic development", he said.
