Once again today, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla was not present at the court hearing regarding the use of tear gas in the Assembly in 2018, and the trial panel proposed that the proceedings against Xhelal Sveçla be separated.

Sveçla’s lawyer, Laur Prenaj, justified the acting minister’s absence and asked for the court’s understanding.

“I ask the court to take into consideration and show understanding of the fact that my client holds a position of high responsibility as Acting Minister of Internal Affairs and cannot always be present or available to respond to court summons,” he said.

Judge Sabit Sadiku stated that Sveçla had informed the court via email that he was outside the country.

“He sent an email; he is outside the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Vetëvendosje MPs Sali Zyba, Fitore Pacolli, and Drita Millaku were present.
