The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has stated that the essence of the "Open Balkans" initiative is the expansion of the economies of regional countries. He said that from January 1, 2022, the facilitation of the movement of goods on the borders of Albania, Serbia and Northern Macedonia will begin. At a meeting in Belgrade, Serbia, as part of the "Open Balkans" initiative, Rama announced another meeting in December in Tirana, while criticizing Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia for refusing to join the initiative. He considered their reasons as reasons not to reason. At a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Deputy Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov, the head of the Albanian government called on the three countries to join the "Open Balkans".
