Workers of Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK) protested on Monday in front of the RTK building, expressing dissatisfaction over the non-payment of full salaries. Union representatives demanded from the Board and Management to immediately ensure the payment of full salaries, while warning of continued protests and other union actions if no concrete solution is provided by Friday.

Speaking on behalf of the three RTK unions, Veton Rugova said the protest was organized to defend workers’ dignity and their right to full salaries.

“Today the three RTK unions are united to protest the non-payment of full salaries by RTK. This is not an issue of a single group. This is an issue for every worker who, with effort and dedication, has contributed to this institution. Today we are gathered here to defend our dignity as workers. Today, precisely those people who have kept RTK running are facing uncertainty over their salaries. This is unfair and unacceptable. Behind every RTK worker stands a family. A salary is not a luxury. A salary is the means by which we support our families and ensure our livelihood. We are not asking for privileges. We are not asking for favors. We are only asking for what is legally ours,” Rugova said.

He emphasized that workers are not responsible for the financial crisis in the institution and called for accountability from RTK’s leadership.

Support for the protest was also expressed by the Chair of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo, Xhemajl Rexha, who criticized the management of the situation and the treatment of the public broadcaster.
