Citizens of Prishtina were unable to use public transport services today.
Urban Traffic and private public transport lines halted work today due to a financial blockade in the Municipality of Prishtina, as reported by KosovaPress.
“Today we are in an abnormal situation. The solution is yours, to call us to a meeting, inform us, and we will convey it to the authorities. Through the media, we apologize to citizens for stopping work, not by our choice. The mayor of the Municipality is obliged to inform us why this situation has arisen at this moment,” said a worker from the bus lines in Prishtina.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, blamed the current caretaker government for not allocating funds to the capital.Rama publicly requested an urgent meeting with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, and the Finance Minister, Hekuran Murati.
“Both Urban Traffic and the private sector have actually been providing services for months without payment, because the funds of our capital, the self-generated revenues which by law should be transferred to the capital, have been and continue to be blocked. As a result, it has been impossible to pay both Urban Traffic and the private sector providing services for the capital. So, this is the problem—the problem is with the Ministry of Finance. That is why I am requesting an urgent meeting with both the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister to resolve this problem, because this problem can be solved immediately. Let me repeat, it is as if you, dear citizens, have money in the bank, the funds are yours, and a bank official refuses to release your money at their discretion. Unfortunately, this is what is happening here in the capital,” said Rama.
