The Democratic Party of Kosovo has requested the establishment of the Parliamentary Investigative Committee for the process of subsidizing the purchase of textbooks and teaching aids for students of primary and lower secondary schools for the 2023-2024 school year.

In the plenary session, the MP of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Floretë Zejnullahu, said that this proposal was based on several reasons, for which she mentioned the investigation for the failure to provide free textbooks for students, for the assessment of the financial cost of subsidizing textbooks and some others.

Zejnullahu said that since September of last year, the government has not yet announced the number of students who have been left without textbooks and the financial cost that would result from the process of subsidizing the purchase of textbooks.

Regarding this PDK proposal, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Arbërie Nagavci said that this request is completely based on untruths and inaccuracies.

She said that there is no report, request, or complaint from the directorates of education for not equipping students with textbooks.

Despite this, Nagavci said that they are looking forward to the establishment of this commission, according to her, to investigate all the abuses that have happened over the years when other parties have led the Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has proposed that this investigation into the subsidy of school textbooks be done within the Committee on Education, instead of establishing a Parliamentary Investigative Committee. According to them, there will be no need for additional means. /Z. Zeneli/
