Pristina will host the 2030 Mediterranean Games, the 21st edition of this multi-sport competition, which will take place from July 24 to August 4, 2030. The event is expected to feature over 3,500 athletes from 26 Mediterranean countries, competing in 33 different sports, while some aquatic disciplines, specifically sailing competitions, will be held in Durrës, Albania.
The right to organize the Games was awarded to Pristina on September 8, 2023, during the General Assembly of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games in Heraklion, Greece. Kosovo’s bid received widespread support, marking a historic moment for the country, which will host such a large-scale international sporting event for the first time since joining the International Olympic Committee in 2014.
An important role in the implementation of the project will also be played by the Kosovo–Albania cooperation agreement, signed in December 2024, which stipulates that Durrës will serve as a co-host city for the sailing competitions. This collaboration is considered essential for meeting the Mediterranean Games standards and for increasing Kosovo’s international visibility through sport.
