The year 2023 in terms of traffic accidents at the country level has been closed as an extraordinary year, since the number of accidents has exceeded 21 thousand, of which 88 were fatal. Experts in this field emphasize that the cause of this large number of accidents is and will remain the road infrastructure, for which they say that until now no preventive measures have been taken in traffic black spots.

Meanwhile, from the institutions responsible for this situation, they say that in 2023, not many projects have been completed, but that in the following years, investments will be made and there will be improvements.

According to the police report, while in 2022 there were 11 thousand 755 accidents with damage, during January-November 2023 the number reached 13 thousand 294, as well as more than 15 thousand injured people.

Traffic expert Nol Dedaj calls this alarming situation, who said that 2023 was an ugly year.

Dedaj said that the main factor in the increase in the number of accidents is the lack of investment in traffic, he said that the institutions should have a strategy to reduce accidents, but they don't have that either.

Bekim Ahmeti, an expert in this field, has the same opinion regarding road accidents and investments in infrastructure. While he mentions the lack of cameras, the lack of radars, the lack of public transport, he says that the situation is the same, there is no change for investments in traffic.

Ahmeti told KosovaPress that for the prevention of accidents, citizens should be made aware and institutions should find solutions for them.

Regarding investments in infrastructure, traffic and accident black spots, the Minister of Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu says that 2023 has been a difficult year, but according to him, important road projects have been completed.

Aliu mentioned the investments in the road of Gjakova, Podujeva and the highway of Gjilan.

Likewise, Aliu added that for 2024, the installation of traffic cameras will be one of the most influential investments in traffic. He expressed that he is satisfied with the investments that have been completed and those that are underway in terms of traffic in the country.
