The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has issued a decree to dissolve the Assembly of Kosovo, KosovaPress reports.

Osmani announced this during a press conference she is holding today.

“I am here before you because the representatives of the people last night decided to send the country to new elections. This situation was completely avoidable. It is a great misfortune for this state that they did not choose the interest of the Republic of Kosovo. Therefore, today, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, I have issued the decree to dissolve the Assembly, and through this decree I am fulfilling the constitutional obligation that is clearly defined,” Osmani said before journalists.

Last night, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo failed to elect the president.

Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, said on Thursday evening that the voting could not continue because 80 MPs were not present. She also announced that she had immediately addressed the Constitutional Court of Kosovo with a request to suspend the constitutional deadlines for the election of the president.
