Dibrani: For three years we have prevented 130 cases of smuggling in prisons
In the last three years, 130 cases of smuggling prevention have been recorded in Kosova prisons. In some cases, the correctional staff, who are no longer part of these institutions, have been involved. This is what the director of Kosova Correctional Service (KCS), Ismail Dibrani said, who also spoke about the projects through which the capacity building within prisons is aimed.
At the conference with donors, he said that this year the budget for capital investments has multiplied.
Kosova Correctional Service, adds Dibrani, has started designing and building new institutions. According to him, the process of building these prisons is being done in cooperation with strategic partners and civil society.
The Deputy Minister of Justice, Blerim Sallahu said that they are working to improve the conditions inside the correctional centers.
Further, OSCE Ambassador Michael Davenport spoke about the importance of training for correctional staff.
Even the head of EULEX, Giovanni Barbano, emphasized the importance of correctional institutions for the rehabilitation of persons serving sentences.
Meanwhile, the representative of the American embassy, Tamra Greig, mentioned the support they have given for security in prisons and courts.
The participants expressed concern about the two cases of murder of women in Ferizaj and Peja. Currently, the Kosova Correctional Service has 11 correctional institutions, of which there are open-type correctional centers, two semi-open-type correctional centers, six detention centers and one high-security institution.
