The Anti-Smuggling Units of Kosovo Customs have seized a considerable quantity of cigarettes without excise stamps during an inspection carried out in a garage of a house in Prishtina.

According to a statement from Kosovo Customs, the operation was undertaken after receiving information through operational channels and following authorization granted by the duty prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Prishtina.

During the inspection, customs officials found and seized 44 packages of cigarettes without excise stamps, which are suspected to have been smuggled into the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The total value of the seized cigarettes is estimated at around 15,000 euros, while the evasion of taxes and customs duties is calculated to exceed 30,000 euros.

By order of the duty prosecutor, the suspect—who is believed to be the owner of the goods—was interviewed regarding the circumstances of the case, while the cigarettes found were confiscated by the authorities.

Kosovo Customs emphasized that it remains committed to combating smuggling and protecting the legal market, while closely cooperating with judicial authorities in handling such cases.
