Obilic Municipality has today started a new reorganization of waste collection services across its entire territory through the Local Public Enterprise “Kastrioti”.
This was announced by Obilic Mayor Halil Thaci, who said that the regional company KRM “Pastrimi” has ended its operations in the municipality and that the service will now be handled by the local enterprise.
“KRM Pastrimi today, June 1, 2026, is ending its service in the municipality of Obilic. This step has been taken in full coordination with all ministries, as well as the Municipal Assembly. And, seeing the need for waste collection, and also the failure of KRM Pastrimi, as a municipality we have decided to start this activity ourselves. As mayor, I have guaranteed the citizens of the municipality of Obilic that I will stand in front of the challenges they face. I am in the service of the citizens and I am responsible for every service needed by the citizens of Obilic. Therefore, dear citizens, I ask for your understanding and we apologize for these four to five months during which KRM Pastrimi failed to collect waste on time. We are now starting, from June 1, to collect waste across the municipality,” Thaci said.He said that the local enterprise has already started work in the field and announced new investments in machinery and equipment to improve services.
According to him, numerous complaints from citizens regarding irregular waste collection have been one of the main reasons for this decision.
Asked about workers’ conditions and salary levels under the new system, Thaci promised better treatment for staff engaged in the waste management department.
In the end, Thaci stressed that responsibility for the waste collection service now lies directly with the Municipality of Obilic, and citizens will be able to hold municipal institutions accountable for the quality of this service.
