The number of murders in Kosovo has decreased during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. According to data from the Kosovo Police, 13 murders were recorded from January to June, six fewer than in the first half of 2025. However, it is estimated that closer cooperation between justice institutions is needed to prevent serious crimes and strengthen security in the country.
As a preventive measure against the use of weapons that also result in murders, the Police has carried out the confiscation of illegal weapons.
Meanwhile, security expert Refki Morina says that no problem or conflict can be solved through violence. He called on state institutions, in cooperation with social institutions, to coordinate their efforts in order to minimize these criminal acts.
“No society in the world, including our society, can resolve conflicts through violence. Preventing such cases, murders and injuries, begins with the family, continues through schools, the support of the Police, and then the courts and prosecution, so that they are more diligent and faster in resolving cases. State and social institutions should coordinate their work in order to minimize these criminal acts, which are among the most serious offences under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo,” Morina said.“Despite the murders that have occurred recently, Kosovo is safe because we have a very professional Police, as well as the judiciary and prosecution, which are internationally recognized as credible and professional institutions. Therefore, there needs to be systematic work by security institutions, meaning continuous patrols in areas where illegal weapons may still exist. Patrols in nightclubs, various patrols, as well as proper coordination between the prosecution and courts so that they are more vigilant and as efficient as possible in resolving cases,” he stated.
