Muhamet Alidemaj is sentenced to 13 years in prison for the Izbica massacre

The Basic Court in Prishtina has found Muhamet Alidemaj guilty of war crimes against the civilian population and sentenced him to 13 years in prison, following the conclusion of the trial on February 2, 2026.

The verdict was announced by the presiding judge, Vesel Ismaili, who stated that the accused was convicted for the criminal act of war crimes against civilians. He was also ordered to cover court procedure costs of 200 euros and an additional 100 euros for the fund for compensating victims of the crime.

According to the indictment, Muhamet Alidemaj had participated, together with members of Serbian police and military forces, in the killing of Albanian civilians during the Izbica massacre in March 1999, in which 130 Albanians were killed and massacred.
