The Basic Court in Prishtina has sentenced the accused Jeton and Nexhat Vllasaliu to life imprisonment for the murder of businessman Bedri Rexhepi.

The verdict was read by the presiding judge, Medie Bytyqi, who stated that the time spent in pretrial detention would be credited toward the sentence for the accused.

"The accused Jeton Vllasaliu and Nexhat Vllasaliu are guilty of the criminal offenses committed in co-perpetration, namely aggravated murder... as well as the criminal offense of desecration of graves or corpses... Therefore, this Court, based on the provisions of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo and the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, sentences the accused to life imprisonment. The time spent in pretrial detention is credited toward the sentence. Accordingly, for the accused Jeton Vllasaliu, the time in pretrial detention is counted from April 13, 2021, and for the accused Nexhat Vllasaliu from August 18, 2022,” he said.

According to the verdict, each of the accused must pay 300 euros in court proceeding costs and 50 euros to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund.

For the realization of the legal property claim, the injured party is advised to pursue a regular civil legal procedure.

An appeal to the Court of Appeals against this verdict is allowed within 30 days from the date of its receipt.

The indictment from the Basic Prosecution in Prishtina charged Jeton and Nexhat Vllasaliu with the criminal offense of "Aggravated Murder," and desecration of graves and corpses.

The indictment states that from the period of January 9, 2021, to April 8, 2021, the defendants Vllasaliu, in co-perpetration and after prior agreement, had begun planning to deprive Bedri Rexhepi of his life, with the aim of gaining material benefit.
