The UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, David Lammy, has called for the normalization and sustainable peace between Kosovo and Serbia, as reported by KosovaPress.

During his official visit to Kosovo on Wednesday, he expressed hope that the upcoming government would be strongly engaged in dialogue. The British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, stated in a press conference after meeting with President Vjosa Osmani that his country is a steadfast supporter of Kosovo and a key partner. He also emphasized the need for the new government in Kosovo to be formed as soon as possible.

"We want sustainable and peaceful normalization between Kosovo and Serbia. The United Kingdom is undoubtedly a major contributor to KFOR, I visited KFOR last time I was here and will visit again. It is crucial for your security, and I hope the next government will address the needs of all citizens, including progress in integrating Kosovo Serbs and engagement in the EU-led dialogue," Lammy stressed.

On the other hand, the host of the meeting, President Vjosa Osmani, stated that Kosovo is a constructive party in the dialogue and committed to peace and stability, despite obstructions and provocations from Serbia.

In this regard, Vjosa Osmani mentioned that it is essential for Serbia to hold accountable those responsible for the Serbian aggression in September 2023, as reported by KosovaPress.

"Kosovo remains a constructive party and committed to peace and stability, despite constantly facing obstructions and provocations from Serbia, including the ongoing attacks that started years ago and continue today. It is essential that there be accountability and responsibility placed on the perpetrators by Serbia, but unfortunately, we are not seeing any movement in this direction. Neither concerning the aggression in September 2023, nor regarding the attack on NATO soldiers, or the recent actions in the north of the country," Osmani emphasized.

Alongside this, the head of state announced that she has proposed deepening the strategic cooperation between Kosovo and the United Kingdom, particularly in the fields of defense and economy.

"I have proposed the signing of an agreement to deepen strategic cooperation between Kosovo and the United Kingdom, which will particularly cover the fields of defense and economy. Today, we had extensive discussions about strengthening strategic cooperation in these areas, which will continue with further discussions between our teams. I appreciate the fact that you welcomed the expansion of our partnership," Osmani declared.

The British Secretary, David Lammy, also mentioned the advancement of the strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in defense, technology, innovation, and clean energy.

He also emphasized the need for Kosovo to make progress on its Euro-Atlantic path.

"It is important that we see Kosovo making progress on its Euro-Atlantic journey, which we discussed this morning. With the support of the United Kingdom, I hope you will become a member of the Council of Europe. The Berlin Process is important for linking ties within this region and the rest of Europe. We will do everything possible to support that progress in the coming months," Lammy stressed.

The British Foreign Secretary arrived in Pristina on Tuesday evening, where he met with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, and several members of his cabinet.

He is on an official visit to Kosovo as part of a tour in the Western Balkans, where he will also visit other regional countries./KosovaPress
