Kurti reiterates: Elections after February 9 were unnecessary
Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti has once again said that the June 7 elections were unnecessary.
At the latest government meeting, Kurti welcomed the setting of a date for the constitutive session of the 11th legislature of the Kosovo Assembly.
“On June 7, we held parliamentary elections for the third time. The first, on February 9, 2025, were regular elections following the completion of the full four-year mandate. Meanwhile, the two subsequent electoral processes, both early elections held in December and especially in June, were avoidable and unnecessary. The setting of the date for the constitutive session of the 11th legislature of the Assembly by Acting President Albulena Haxhiu is welcome. The political parties, each according to the share given to them by the people, once again face the responsibility of fulfilling their duties to establish new institutions, including the election of the president,” Kurti said.
He also mentioned the meetings he held on July 10 with the leaders of the PDK and LDK, noting that the Alliance did not accept the invitation.
Kurti said the state interest must be put first, calling on political parties to elect Kosovo's new president.
Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu announced on Friday that the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly will be held on August 6 at 10:00 a.m.
