Kurti marks November 28: A date that has become sacred in our national calendar
The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has published a congratulatory message for Flag Day, describing November 28 as the date most deeply connected to the historical fate of the Albanian nation.
Kurti emphasized that the historical journey beginning with the raising of the Kastrioti flag at the Castle of Kruja in 1443 continues uninterrupted through the key events that have marked the Albanian nation over the centuries.
“This 28th day of the eleventh month was indeed a historical accident in 1443, but such an accident, repeated with such insistence throughout history, inevitably turned into a sacred symbol of our national calendar,” Kurti wrote.
He also recalled the raising of the flag in Vlora in 1912, bringing to attention the vision of Sami Frashëri and the reflections of Luigj Gurakuqi.
Kurti mentioned as well the important dates in Kosovo’s history: the birthday of Adem Jashari and the first public appearance of the Kosovo Liberation Army on November 28, 1997—moments he described as decisive steps on the path toward freedom.
In the end, Kurti extended his wishes to all Albanians wherever they may be:
“Happy November 28th, Flag Day!” he wrote.
