Kurti begins meetings with minority parties on government formation

Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has begun meetings with political parties representing minority communities to consult with them regarding the formation of the new government. This follows the certification of the results of the February 9 elections and the commencement of constitutional deadlines for forming the new legislature and government, KosovaPress reports.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, as part of these discussions, Kurti met with the Third Deputy Prime Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights, as well as the Chairwoman of the New Democratic Party (NDS), Emilija Rexhepi. She confirmed her full willingness to continue cooperation with the VETEVENDOSJE! Movement, the winner of the recent elections, and to support Prime Minister Kurti in forming the new government.

"Prime Minister Kurti thanked Rexhepi for the fruitful cooperation, the achievements during this mandate, and the good work that lies ahead in the next four years," the statement reads, as reported by KosovaPress.

Following this meeting, Kurti also met with the Acting Minister for Communities and Returns and Chairman of the Freedom, Justice, and Survival Party, Nenad Rasic.

"The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, continued meetings with minority political parties as part of consultations for forming the new government. He welcomed the Minister for Communities and Returns and Chairman of the Freedom, Justice, and Survival Party, Nenad Rasic. During the discussion, Minister Rasic reiterated his support for Prime Minister Kurti in forming the new government and continuing fruitful cooperation in the next mandate," the statement says.

Prime Minister Kurti thanked Chairman Rašić for his significant work and distinguished contribution to the Serbian community in Kosovo during just half a mandate as Minister for Communities and Returns. He also expressed his willingness to continue effective and fruitful cooperation in the next four years to achieve further successes and good governance for all citizens, without distinction.

Following the certification of the final election results for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, held on February 9, 2025, and in accordance with constitutional authorizations and legal deadlines, President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has scheduled the first session of the Ninth Legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo for April 15, 2025, the Presidency's Office announced, as reported by KosovaPress.

After the Assembly is constituted, the process of forming the government will begin. According to the Constitution, the president is required to propose a candidate for prime minister to the Assembly after consulting with the party or coalition that won the majority.

The parliamentary elections were held on February 9, and the results were certified by the Central Election Commission last week. Based on these results, LVV emerged as the leading party with 48 deputies, PDK second with 24 deputies, LDK third with 20 deputies, and AAK-NISMA fourth with 8 deputies.
