The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, after the meeting with the leader of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, said that they are trying to find a solution for the new president of the country.

But, according to him, this meeting was like all the others held so far, without any proposal of names.

Abdixhiku said that an agreement must be reached and the country should not go to elections.

He announced that he will also meet with the leaders of PDK, Bedri Hamza, and AAK, Ramush Haradinaj.

“We have less than three weeks’ time to find a consensus and reach a possible agreement; otherwise, the country goes to elections. No one wants elections, not even LDK. I will also meet other political leaders of PDK and AAK to understand their positions,” he said.

Any agreement that ensures the quorum for the next president is welcome.

“Any agreement that ensures the quorum for the next president is welcome. For this, there must be discussions with all parties. No, we have not yet discussed concrete names. As you know, three positions cannot belong to one political party,” he said.

The Kosovo Assembly has 22 days left to elect the new president of the country.

According to a decision of the Constitutional Court, the members of the Kosovo Assembly have until April 28 to elect the new president of the country.

Vetëvendosje in the last elections on December 28 won over 51 percent of the votes, while LDK got 13 percent.

The ruling coalition led by Vetëvendosje has 66 deputies, or 14 fewer than the required number of lawmakers needed to vote in the first two rounds to elect the president of the country.
