The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DHTIK) opposes the Energy Regulatory Office’s plan to implement the second phase of energy market liberalization, which is scheduled to begin in April.

“As we stated last year, the chosen form of liberalization is wrong, without any prior analysis, lacking control mechanisms, and accompanied by numerous violations confirmed by the Supreme Court of Kosovo,” the DHTIK reaction reads.

According to DHTIK, the companies that participated in last year’s energy market liberalization not only faced bills that were three times higher, but also severe cuts, which caused significant chain damages, ranging from financial to operational, threatening the stability of businesses and jobs.

“Furthermore, the Kosovo Agency of Statistics confirmed our warnings regarding rising prices and production costs, which led to a massive increase in imports,” the statement adds.

Therefore, the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry calls on the Assembly of Kosovo and the relevant committees to take swift measures to hold energy sector actors accountable before it is too late.
