The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) has decided to temporarily ban the import of all types of processed infant formula “Aptamil” into Kosovo.

This decision is based on frequent notifications received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), according to which several EU countries, including Kosovo, are facing a situation concerning the possible presence of the toxin Cereulide in this product.

“Through the notifications published in recent days, complete clarifications have been provided regarding the APTAMIL baby product, including information on which types of this product should not be used. Therefore, citizens have no reason for concern, as measures were taken in a timely and preventive manner for the quantity that was previously imported into Kosovo,” the Food and Veterinary Agency stated.

In coordination with economic operators, the FVA has carried out a market recall of the affected product. Meanwhile, FVA inspectors are on the ground continuing, as stated, full traceability efforts to verify whether any units of the products identified as unsafe remain.

“All previously undertaken actions, as well as this decision, prioritize the maximum protection of infants’ and consumers’ health, while the situation is being managed responsibly and in continuous coordination with international partners.

This decision comes into effect on February 11, 2026.

The Food and Veterinary Agency will continue to inform the public of any further developments.
