The Secretary General of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), Iakovos Filippousis, has highly praised Kosovo’s preparations so far for hosting the Mediterranean Games, describing the 21st edition as an extraordinary opportunity for the country’s sporting, infrastructural and institutional development.

During his visit and meetings with representatives of sports institutions, Filippousis emphasized the importance of the engagement of the Kosovo Olympic Committee and sports federations, underlining that preparations for Prishtina 2030 are moving in the right direction.

“The leadership of the National Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations deserve our recognition, especially as preparations for Prishtina 2030 are underway. The 21st edition of the Mediterranean Games represents an exceptional opportunity for Prishtina and Kosovo, for the state and its capital; not only on the field of play, where states will compete at the highest levels in 28 sports, but also in terms of building modern and sustainable infrastructure. These opportunities will strengthen athletes’ preparation, support long-term developments in sport and raise performance standards for the years ahead,” Filippousis said.

According to him, hosting the Mediterranean Games will have a multifaceted impact on Kosovo, leaving a long-term legacy in sport, infrastructure and institutional capacity, while also strengthening Prishtina’s position on the map of major international sporting events.
