I will do everything to prevent the country from going to early elections, said the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu.

She has requested the Constitutional Court to issue a decision as soon as possible regarding President Vjosa Osmani’s decree to dissolve the Assembly.

She reiterated that the decree is unconstitutional, adding that they are waiting for further steps.

Haxhiu emphasized that once the decision is published, it must be carefully analyzed and understood in order to act in accordance with constitutional responsibilities.

“I hope we will have a decision on President Osmani’s decree as soon as possible. Whenever this decision comes out, it is important that we review and understand it, and then act in accordance with our responsibilities. As Speaker of the Assembly, I will do everything in my power to ensure that the country does not go to early elections,” she said.

She stressed the need for cooperation among political parties, calling for a common stance to resolve the president’s issue. According to her, the invitations from Prime Minister Albin Kurti to opposition parties show a willingness for dialogue.

“It is extremely important to find a common path, to have a shared stance, and to reach an agreement regarding the president. From what I have seen, the LVV’s position, along with the invitations Prime Minister Kurti has sent to opposition leaders, reflects interest and willingness, and it is important that this willingness exists from all sides. This is not the time for political games or grudges,” she said.

When asked about her actions as acting president, Haxhiu said she hopes there will be a fully mandated president by then, but if not, she will carry out her responsibilities as provided in the Constitution.

“I hope we will have a solution by then. It would be ideal to have a fully elected president by April 4, rather than an acting one. But of course, given the circumstances, I know how to address my responsibilities,” she said.

Haxhiu made these comments following her participation in a conference held as part of Women’s Week.
