Kosovo's Acting Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, has stated that the government is holding discussions with the United States regarding the issue of gas, but stressed that this topic is only one of many being discussed with allied countries. According to her, all of this is based on Kosovo’s interests, as reported by KosovaPress.

“We have discussions not only about gas but also about many security-related topics with all our allies, not only with the United States, and we have shown over the past five years that we act with great responsibility and seriousness, not only by discussing but also by making decisions based on the interest of Kosovo,” Gërvalla said.

As the leader of the “GUXO” party, which is part of the governing coalition with “Vetëvendosje,” Gërvalla also commented on the Democratic League of Kosovo’s position of conditioning any governing coalition on the implementation of the American gas project.

She said that imposing conditions is a very bad prerequisite for the start of negotiations.

“The opposition would do well not to set conditions, because setting conditions is a very bad prerequisite for the start of negotiations. I believe that the citizens of Kosovo are the ones who decide—not me, not the opposition, and not anyone else. The citizens have already had their say, and as responsible politicians of our country, we should sit down and discuss what the best ways forward are. And again, after we have discussed, of course we will inform the public. The first steps are taken at the beginning, and the informative steps come afterwards,” Gërvalla said.
