The Austrian Embassy in Pristina has announced that from March 1, 2025, Kosovo driving licenses of all categories will be equivalent to Austrian driving licenses.

This is stated in the announcement of the Austrian Embassy in Kosovo.

“Kosovar driving licenses were recognized in Austria on September 1, 2023, with the adoption of the agreement on the establishment of the Transport Community in Article 23 of the Driving License Act (FSG). Based on this, holders of Kosovo driving licenses have the right to drive vehicles temporarily in Austria. If they stay in Austria for more than 6 months or establish residence in Austria, they must convert their Kosovo driving license. However, Kosovar driving licenses were not equivalent to Austrian ones, so the conversion required a practical driving test,” the announcement says.

With the change in the relevant regulation, the embassy announces that as of March 1, 2025, Kosovo driving licenses of all categories will be equivalent to Austrian driving licenses.

“This means that Kosovar driving licenses, from this moment on, can be converted to Austria without the need for a practical driving test, if they stay in Austria for more than 6 months or establish permanent residence in Austria. With this change in the regulation, Austria meets an important and concrete requirement of the economy and all those who possess a Kosovar driving license,” the announcement says.
