Former Prishtina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti sentenced to two years in prison and €5,000 fine for concealing assets
Former Prishtina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti was sentenced by the Basic Court in Prishtina on Friday to two years in prison and a €5,000 fine.
The former deputy leader of Vetëvendosje and former head of the Social Democratic Party was convicted by the Special Department of the court for the criminal offense of “failure to report or false reporting of assets, income, gifts, other material benefits or financial obligations.”
Ahmeti is also required, once the verdict becomes final, to pay €100 in court fees and another €100 in compensation for crime victims.
The court said the parties have the right to appeal the verdict to the Court of Appeals of Kosovo within 30 days of receiving the judgment.
Ahmeti was accused of failing to declare €54,400 received from his mother's personal accounts, as well as €118,000 of his own funds.
According to the prosecution, the total amount of undeclared funds was €172,600. /KosovaPress/
