Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has announced that former deputy leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Shqipe Mjekiqi, has joined his team starting today.

Kurti said that Mjekiqi has joined to contribute her expertise in foreign policy and international relations, adding that it was a pleasure to discuss with her Kosovo’s needs on its path toward EU and NATO membership, socio-economic achievements, democratic values, political developments in the country, and the security situation.

“Shqipe Mjekiqi completed her PhD studies in Political Science at Trinity College Dublin, a Master’s degree in European Union Politics at the London School of Economics, and her undergraduate studies in Political Science at the University of Prishtina. Shqipe has extensive professional experience in the public institutions of the Republic of Kosovo in the field of European integration and security issues. She is currently an Assistant Professor at UBT College and is engaged as a consultant in various projects related to development and reform processes in our country,” Kurti wrote, reports KosovaPress.

Kurti continues to expand his staff and cabinet, despite being acting prime minister. In addition to Mjekiqi, after the dissolution of the Assembly, Kurti appointed Agon Batusha as Deputy Minister of Local Government Administration and Hysni Mehani as Deputy Minister of Finance.

Mjekiqi joined the Democratic League of Kosovo on March 20, 2021, when the party leader Lumir Abdixhiku said she remains an inspiration for political engagement among young people and professionals in the country.
