At the premises of the school named after the hero Xheladin Gashi, the School Day was marked with a rich artistic and commemorative program. The event featured dances, choral music, and speeches dedicated to the life and work of Commander “Plaku,” while awards were also presented to distinguished teachers.
The school principal, Imer Behrami, said that this day is a symbol of pride and respect for all those who contributed to the freedom and education of Kosovo.
“Today, this school proudly bears the name of the ideologist, teacher, patriot, and fighter Xheladin Gashi – Plaku. On this special school day, we proudly remember and honor our teachers, our students, our staff, and all those who sacrificed everything so that we today may live and celebrate freedom,” he said.During the ceremony, the importance of preserving the memory of figures who contributed to the country and its freedom was also emphasized.
On behalf of the family, those present were greeted by the daughter of Commander Plaku, Lumije Gashi. “Today is a day of pride and remembrance. We celebrate School Day and remember General Xheladin Gashi, the teacher and the man who dedicated his life to freedom and the country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of our freedom, a legacy that must never be forgotten,” she said.Xheladin Gashi, Commander “Plaku,” was born in Bushat (former Komoran) on May 25, 1946. He was one of the founders of the first cells of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), as well as a member of the General Staff since the establishment of the KLA.
Commander Plaku died in 2005, at which time he was heading the association “Friends of the KPC.” At the time, he was also serving as a teacher at the Komoran Primary School, which now bears his name. Former President Atifete Jahjaga awarded him the “Hero of the Nation” medal.
