Exports fall, trade deficit deepens by about 30 percent

Official data from foreign trade in goods in Kosovo show a trade deficit of 29.6 percent in January 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, or in the amount of 414.1 million euros, compared to the deficit of 319.6 million euros in 2024.

According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, exports in this period cover imports by only 12.6 percent.
"Exports of goods in January 2025 were worth 59.7 million euros, while imports were worth 473.8 million euros, which is a decrease of 1.1 percent for exports, as well as an increase of 24.7 percent for imports, compared to the same period in 2024," the ASK report states.

According to the data of the main export groups, 24.2 percent are base metals and articles thereof, 14.1 percent are plastics, rubber and articles, 14 percent are various manufactured articles, 11. 5 percent are prepared foods, beverages and tobacco, while 6.6 percent are textiles and textile articles, etc.

“While according to the data of the main import groups, 20.4% are mineral products, 14.1% are means of transport, 10.2% are prepared foods, beverages and tobacco, 9.6% are machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, 8.5% are base metals and articles, etc.,” ASK reports.
Meanwhile, Kosovo's exports to EU countries reached 22.5 million euros, or about 37.7% of total exports, with an increase of 22.3%.
