Some businesses have started receiving their electricity bills for June 2025, after a two-month delay. One of these businesses is "Elkos," which has accepted a bill that is at least 100% more expensive compared to the same period last year.

The owner of Elkos, Ramiz Kelmendi, told KosovaPress that they received the June bill today, amounting to 346,000 euros. He explained that in June 2024, the bill was 166,000 euros. According to him, this increase will force a 10% to 30% rise in the prices of products and services.

He warned that the increase in electricity prices will seriously damage Kosovo’s economy.

“We received the bill... Last year it was 166,000 euros, and now for June 2025 it’s 346,000 euros. We can’t operate like this, but since the cost must be passed on to the customer, this means around 200 million euros in additional expenses will ultimately be paid by citizens through higher prices. For example, something as simple as a piece of bread in a restaurant will cost more. Everything will be more expensive. Prices may rise around 10%, and for some products, especially those made in Kosovo, even up to 30%. This is damaging the economy and weakening it—especially compared to neighboring countries that enjoy lower or more selective energy prices,” Kelmendi said.

Another local producer, Shaqir Palushi, also confirmed that his June electricity bill was at least 100% higher than the same period last year.

According to the business community, decisions made by the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) threaten mass layoffs, reduced production, and increased imports.

Businesses have repeatedly protested in Prishtina against ZRRE’s decision, which they argue puts a heavy burden on local companies and the overall economy of Kosovo.

This is a developing story.
