Freedom and independence of Kosovo are the result of our sacrifice and the support of our Western allies, among whom Eliot Engel holds a special place, said Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Speaking at the commemorative session of the Assembly in honour of the American congressman, he said that Eliot Engel became the voice of Kosovo in the country’s most difficult times.

“Congressman Eliot Engel, a friend of Albanians in general and of Kosovo in particular, never hesitated to raise his voice in defense of human rights and to stand on the right side of history. Moreover, he advocated and engaged tirelessly to ensure that rights would triumph... He never spared his efforts in raising and advocating for the protection of our cause in the highest American institutions. For more than three decades, Engel was a servant of American citizens and a strong representative of human rights worldwide, and especially for us... In the most difficult times for Albanians, Engel became the voice we did not have and became our congressman, and he will remain so forever... The freedom and independence of Kosovo are the result of our sacrifice and the support of our Western allies, among whom Eliot Engel holds a special place,” he said.
