Democratic Party of Kosovo MP: The Assembly should invite the President of the Specialist Court to report
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Artan Behrami said the Assembly of Kosovo should invite the President of the Specialist Court, Ekaterina Trendafilova, to report.
Speaking from the parliamentary podium during today’s session, he stressed the need for such a step, citing what he described as violations and concerns raised by both Kosovar and international experts regarding human rights violations in the trial of former KLA leaders in The Hague.
“I want to commend the dignified stance of the Deputy Prime Minister, also Minister of Foreign Affairs, Glauk Konjufca, who made this point at the United Nations Security Council, where he requested that this court report to the Assembly that established it. When Kosovo’s foreign minister raises this issue at the highest international forums, then it is the duty of this Assembly not to remain silent. Therefore, the Assembly should demand accountability from the EU, from the financing states, institutional clarifications from EULEX, and urgently end reporting to EULEX and UNMIK through Resolution 1244. This hybrid situation where Kosovo bears the name but others hold control cannot continue. As an Assembly, we should urgently invite for reporting the President of the Specialist Court, Ekaterina Trendafilova, the court’s ombudsperson, and why not also the head of EULEX. I believe the Committee on Human Rights together with the Committee on Legislation can lead this process,” he said. /KosovaPress/
