The Municipality of Decan held a solemn session in honor of Liberation Day, during which all those who sacrificed for the freedom of the country were honored.

The mayor of the municipality, Bashkim Ramosaj, said that today the life and contribution of all those who stood up to achieve freedom are highly valued.

“Today, with more respect beyond honoring this day, our memory is about who we are, and today we have the right to honor all generations who stood up to achieve freedom. This honor is about our identity, our culture, and about the lesson we pass on to others, the model we create for others, reaching a point where it becomes a sacred and divine act, that an army was born from this people, representing the idea of liberation of this country. In this difficult journey, which is hard to fully explain, we must not forget our friends and allies, without whom our price and cost to reach freedom would have been much higher than it is today,” Ramosaj said.

Respect for the war martyrs was also expressed by the chair of the Municipal Assembly of Decan, Hajdar Sutaj.

“Today, with the highest respect, we honor our heroes, the sacrifice of the martyrs and national martyrs, and all men and women across generations who gave everything for the most precious ideal, the freedom of the homeland. We sincerely thank our international allies, the NATO member states, led by the United States of America. The freedom we enjoy today has first and last names; it was born and written on the land of Decan by its best sons, kept alive by mothers who raised them with dignity and sent them to the front lines of war, and welcomed them back victorious, while many of those mothers received them with both pain and pride, and from a people who never surrendered,” Sutaj said.

The first appointed mayor of Decan, Ibrahim Selmanaj, said that the major change in the Kosovo Liberation Army war happened on November 28, 1997.

At the end, the mayor of Decan, Bashkim Ramosaj, awarded a posthumous decoration to former mayor Muhamet Bujku for his vision and contribution.
