The voting process for the local elections began on time in all polling centers across Kosovo, said the spokesperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Valmir Elezi.

In the CEC’s first press conference, Elezi stated that election materials, including ballots, were distributed on time to all polling centers.

“In the early morning hours, election materials, including the ballots, were distributed on time to all polling centers. We also inform you that, based on the information received by the CEC, the voting process for mayors and municipal assemblies has started in all polling centers in the Republic of Kosovo, except for a few delays at specific polling stations,” he said.

In addition, Elezi said that the CEC, in response to challenges faced during previous elections, has made preparations this time regarding the process of transmitting preliminary results.

“In response to the challenges that emerged during the last elections, which were related to the process of transmitting and recording preliminary results, the CEC has treated this issue seriously during the four-month preparatory period, and all necessary preparations have been made so that, once the voting process concludes, we will be able to transmit the preliminary results,” Elezi emphasized.

Citizens of the Republic of Kosovo are today exercising their constitutional right to vote. These are the regular local elections, held in all 38 municipalities of Kosovo.

The voting process for the October 12 local elections is taking place in 948 polling centers with a total of 2,625 polling stations.

According to CEC data, the number of citizens eligible to vote at polling stations is 2,069,098. Of these, 43,993 citizens living abroad have registered to vote.

The number of certified political entities participating in these elections is 93, of which 32 political parties, 2 coalitions, 32 citizens’ initiatives, and 27 independent candidates. /KosovaPress
