Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, took part in the unveiling of the mural “Çast” in Mitrovica, emphasizing the importance of preserving the memory of survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.

According to her, “Çast” is moving from city to city and is becoming a path of remembrance, as after Prishtina, Theranda, Peja and Mitrovica, it will also be placed in Drenas, Gjakova, Gjilan, Ferizaj and Prizren.

Haxhiu said that memory should not remain only in commemorative halls, but should also be present in public spaces, near schools, homes and streets where citizens pass every day.

She stressed that the mural is dedicated to people who were sexually abused during the war in Kosovo, and that through it their truth and history are becoming more visible.

The Acting President recalled that war crimes, including sexual violence during the war, are not subject to pardon or statute of limitations, calling on justice institutions to continue their work in investigating and punishing the perpetrators of these crimes.

She added that although a mural cannot replace justice or erase pain, it helps preserve collective memory and honor survivors, who deserve continuous respect and support.
