Former President Ibrahim Rugova internationalized the Albanian cause, said the Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Dimal Basha, after paying tribute at Rugova’s grave on the 20th anniversary of his death.

Basha, accompanied by several members of the outgoing government cabinet and officials of LVV, stated that Rugova remains one of the most important figures in the modern history of Kosovo’s politics.

“President Rugova deserves extraordinary credit for internationalizing the Albanian cause, considering that at that time very few knew where Kosovo was and the problems it faced. He managed to reach the main global centers, internationalizing the Albanian issue and exposing the terror and violence of Serbia against an innocent Albanian people. Rugova also played an important role in various processes, including the Rambouillet negotiations and the establishment of post-war institutions. Therefore, he remains one of the most important figures in the modern history of our country’s politics,” Basha said.
