The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Dimal Basha, stated that in the research he worked on in 2012, his responsibility lies only, as he said, with the topic related to fundamentalist Islam in Kosovo.

He said that he did not write “a single word about the KLA.”

He expressed this at a press conference before the start of the constitutive session.

“This is not the first time that I, as Dimal Basha, nor we as a Movement, have been attacked with untruths in certain circles. It is extremely exhausting that in this country slanders never stop, and therefore I feel responsible to clarify before the citizens the low accusations raised against me. In 2012, when I was a student, just like many other students, we submitted research for publication. At that time, I conducted research on the issue of the penetration of fundamentalist Islam in Southeast Europe, but always with a focus on Kosovo. I submitted research that relates only to this topic, and here ends my responsibility regarding that work. For your information, even my Master’s thesis, published in 2013, also covered only this subject. Not a single word in it mentions the KLA or anything else,” he declared before reporters.

Furthermore, Basha says that he considers the KLA’s war as sacred and that he distances himself from all those who have made comments against this value.“I, Dimal Basha, as Speaker of the Assembly and as every citizen of this republic, hold sacred the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the sacrifice of our people for freedom. I bow to each and every one who contributed in war and peace. I want to declare with the greatest civic and national responsibility that never in my life has there been written, nor will there ever be found, any content that goes against this sacred value of our people — and this needs no further comment, because I distance myself from all those who have written against this value,” Basha said.
