FC Luzern and Switzerland national team defender Adrian Bajrami has described the upcoming match against Kosovo in the World Cup qualifiers as a special one.

“Of course, there’s a connection. It’s a special match that’s simply fun,” Bajrami said in an interview with 20 Minuten.

Although originally from Struga, North Macedonia, and a former member of the Albanian national team, the 22-year-old defender feels strong ties to both of his roots. “I feel both Swiss and Albanian. I’m proud of my heritage and of representing Switzerland,” he added.

Bajrami made his debut for the Swiss national team in October against Slovenia and has since been regarded as one of the most promising talents by coach Murat Yakin and captain Granit Xhaka.

Beyond the sporting aspect, the 22-year-old also emphasized his strong family bond. “I’m prouder of my parents than of myself. They built everything from scratch,” Bajrami said.
