The MP of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Agim Bahtiri, expressed optimism that the MP from the Serb community, Nenad Rashiq, will be elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo.
During the continuation of the constitutive session for the 60th time, where MPs are expected to vote for the election of the fifth Deputy Speaker from the Serb community, he said that Vetëvendosje has no votes for any candidate from the Serb List.
“Certainly, Rashiq will be elected (Deputy Speaker). I have stated that I would rather cut off my hand than vote for the Serb List. My colleagues in Vetëvendosje share the same stance. This is based on the problems they have caused in the north, where they are directly involved. I do not vote for people whose heads are in Belgrade and their bodies in Prishtina,” he said.
However, Bahtiri did not explain how they intend to elect MP Rashiq as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly following the third ruling of the Constitutional Court regarding the constitution of the Assembly and the procedures for electing the Deputy Speaker from the Serb community. The Constitutional Court, on October 8, published the full judgment following the complaint by the Serb List regarding the constitution of the Assembly. The Court stated that the Assembly has not yet been constituted and gave MPs a deadline of 12 days to complete the process of constitution. The 12-day deadline began on the day the full judgment was published on the Court’s official website – October 8.
