Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid tribute at the grave of national hero Bahri Fazliu on the 28th anniversary of his death.

Kurti described Bahri Fazliu as one of the first fighters of the Albanian liberation cause, but also as an intellectual, poet, critic and youth organizer.

He stressed that Bahriu played an important role in the liberation strategy and the organization of the people.

“The Albanian nation has Bahri Fazliu, a fighter not only from the earliest hours of our liberation efforts, but in him we also find the example of a young intellectual, an engaged critic, a romantic poet, a newspaper editor, and at the same time an organizer and architect of the liberation strategy through the organization of the people. Bahri Fazliu today rests here in Prishtina, between two other personalities whom he always kept close. To his right is the martyr of the Albanian people, Fahri Fazliu, who less than a decade before Bahriu, in direct confrontation with Serbian enemy forces, fell heroically together with Afrim Zhiti. Meanwhile, to his left is his inseparable friend Agron Rahmani. And Bahri Fazliu maximized this advantage by organizing Albanian youth until May 7, 1998, when he fell heroically in battle in Bogiqe, on the border between Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro, against Serbian military forces,” he said.

On the 28th anniversary of Bahri Fazliu’s death, many of his fellow fighters and family members also paid tribute at his grave, as did Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.

Bahri Fazliu was killed on May 7, 1998, in the place known as Bogiqe, on the border between Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro.

Bahri Fazliu was one of the founders of the National Movement for the Liberation of Kosovo (LKÇK) and later became involved in the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
