Despite objections from opposition parties, the Assembly of Kosovo approved the Law on Kosovo Citizenship. The law received 69 votes in favor and 2 against.
However, during the parliamentary debate on the draft law, Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Ganimete Musliu raised concerns, saying the law is harmful to Kosovo and threatens the country’s internal security.
“I call on you, before signing this law, since it appears that as acting president you will likely be the one signing it in eight days, to read it carefully and seek advice because this law endangers Kosovo’s internal security... it is clear that no rule applies here other than the orders of Dejona Aleksandër Mihali. We saw earlier that ruling majority MPs do not dare raise their hands to vote without first checking whether it says that it was not proposed by the opposition,” she said.
Afterward, Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu responded to Musliu’s remarks.Vetëvendosje Movement MP Mefail Bajqinovci said that the draft law on Kosovo citizenship enables the diaspora to regain citizenship.
“For laws such as these, which are vital for the state of Kosovo, we must be especially careful to proceed through regular procedures,” she said.
Meanwhile, 71 MPs voted in favor, with no votes against or abstentions, for the Law on Social and Affordable Housing.
Seven amendments proposed by the functional committee for this draft law were also voted on separately and approved during the session.
The highest legislative body also approved the Law on Payment Services with 68 votes in favor.
“It seems I already warned you earlier, but there appears to be no reflection. If once again there is no quorum for draft laws, I will not put them to a second vote. Please remain in the hall and vote,” she said.
With 68 votes in favor, no votes against, and no abstentions, the Assembly of Kosovo also passed in second reading the Law on Financing the Management of Water Resources.
The Assembly of Kosovo also approved the Law on the State Matura Exam with 66 votes in favor.
